Dotplot

The Dotplot is the basic plot for a single gene. It shows the gene's expression in all samples. The samples are arranged so that the healthy tissue samples are on the right, followed by cancer tissue samples, and finally other diseases and cell lines. Within these divisions, the samples are further divided into more specific categories. The anatomical origin of the samples can be seen below the plot, and any category where the expression differs significantly is colored and labeled. An intuitive and simple way to view the gene's behavior across all tissues and cancers.

Bodymap

The bodymap is a heatmap of genes and their mean expressions on a number of tissues or cancers, a convenient way to study gene sets and their behavior. The samples are displayed according to the group (tissue type, cancer type, so on) they belong to. Expression medians are displayed per group.

Phenoplot

The phenoplot is an informative way to display samples along with their clinical data. It is a clustered heatmap with a set of genes in a selected sample set. Along with the expression, all relevant clinical data is plotted, so that you can easily see any associations between the expression and clinical variables, thus easily identifying patient subgroups. There are many preassembled sample collections from various cancer types available.

In addition to the visualizations described above, ISTOnline also features:

  • a boxplot alternative to the Dotplot
  • a cell line plot
  • a correlation plot
  • a biomarker search and visualisation tool
